How To Find A Song By Humming? My 3 Personal Methods

Yesterday evening, there was a birthday party at my friend Andrew’s house and we friends were enjoying his birthday there. Then we decided to play music and dance there, our birthday boy asked to play his favourite birthday song first.

So I asked him what’s the name of that song, he said that I can’t remember that song’s name and lyrics, but the tune/melody was stuck in my mind.

Then I told him, don’t worry Andrew! I have 3 methods to find any song just by humming its tune, then we used those methods to find Andrew’s favourite birthday song and finally found it! It was “Birthday” song by The Beatles.

In this article, I’m going to share those 3 simple methods with you to find a song just by humming its tune. So what to wait for? Let’s start the article!

How To Find A Song By Humming?

Method #1: Using Google Hum To Search

This method is the most popular of the three and will work on both iOS and Android devices. So let’s know how to use it to find song (step by step):

Tutorial to find a song by Humming into Google Hum to Search

Step 1: Open Google app in your device.
Step 2: Tap on the Microphone icon, which is next to the search bar.
Step 3: Tap on Search A Song from the bottom.
Step 4: Now Play, sing or hum that song’s tune whose name you could not remember.
Finally! Google will find that song for you whose tune you are humming.

Method #2: Using YouTube

This is my favorite method to find any song by humming, because whenever I have used it, it has displayed the correct song 99% of the time.

Here’s the step by step process to use it:

Method #3: Using SoundHound

However, you will not need to use this method after using the above methods, because they will definitely find that song for you.

But if those methods don’t work for you by chance, then here’s how to use SoundHound to find a song by humming:

Step 1: Download SoundHound app from Google Play Store or App Store and open it.
Step 2: A pop-up will appear to get your Mic permission, so Allow it.
Step 3: Tap on the big orange SoundHound logo
Step 4: Hum the song’s tune.
Step 5: It will show you the results.

Note: I have used SoundHound only 4 times to find songs by humming, but it could not find any song 3 times out of them. This method has worked once only, so I use Google and YouTube to find song by humming everytime.

How accurate are these methods to find a song by humming?

So I have mentioned 3 methods in this article to find any song’s name by humming its tune. But which of these is the most accurate method?

YouTube’s method has been the most accurate for me, last month I searched something about 9 songs by humming them using this method and YouTube guessed 8 songs correctly. Only 1 time YouTube don’t be able to guess that song.

After that, I also used Google Hum To Search 5-6 times, it showed about 3 songs correctly, 1 time it did not get any result and 1 time it displayed an incorrect song.

And I used SoundHound 4 times but it gave me correct result only once, I hummed 3 English and 1 Spanish songs in it.

So the winner is YouTube for me, Google Hum to Search stands at the 2nd position.

Can I hum songs in different languages to find their name?

Yes, you can find the name of a song humming its tune in any language. I have tried to find English, French and Spanish songs by humming them on YouTube, Google Hum To Search and SoundHound so far and these languages are working.

Google has written in one of its article that Google Hum To Search works in more than 20 languages. So, try this method once in your language and tell me in the comment below whether Hum To Search worked in your language or not, so I can update it in this article.

Is there a limit to how long I can hum for?

No, there is no fixed limit as to how long you can hum, but about 10-15 seconds is enough to find any song name by humming its tune.

Conclusion

So next time if you don’t remember any song’s name but know its tune, then you can find out the name of that song just by humming the tune in Google, YouTube or SoundHound.

I have been using these 3 methods (mentioned above) for a long time, and these methods will work 100% for you too.
